Public Review Timeline
March 2025 - Certification begins the public review process (Uniform Land Use Review Procedure). Jamaica was certified by the City Planning Commission (CPC) on March 20, 2025.
Late March through May 2025 - During the Community Board review period, Queens Community Boards 12 and 8 will hold meetings and public hearings to gather community feedback on the proposal. They have 60 days to submit a recommendation to approve or disapprove the application, along with any suggested conditions.
June 2025 - During the Borough President review period, the Queens Borough President will host public hearings to gather community feedback on the proposal. They have 30 days to submit a recommendation to approve or disapprove the application, along with any suggested conditions.
July through August 2025 - After the community boards and the Borough President review the proposal, the CPC will hold a public hearing to hear directly from the community. They will then consider all the feedback from the community boards, the Borough President, and the public hearings, along with the proposal itself, before deciding whether the application should move forward in the process. They can also request changes to the proposal based on the feedback. They have 60 days to make their final decision and make any amendments to the proposal.
Fall 2025. If the City Planning Commission approves the proposal, it moves to the next step: City Council review. The City Council will review the proposal including all the recommendations that have been shared by Community Boards, the Borough President, and the City Planning Commission. They will also hold public hearings to gather more community input and can request changes based on feedback. The City Council has 50 days to make any revisions and vote on whether to fully approve the proposal.
